The New Noakes Internationals
Blue In Black And White

33 Records: 33JAZZ069

running time: 54:44

Following a five-year hiatus, I reformed a very new version of my New Noakes group. This came about - as many musical collaborations seem to do - by chance: I had booked Etienne Brachet (long time Parisian drummer with the New Noakes Quartet) to play a one-off gig at The Spin and decided to hire a keyboard player to recreate our old familiar format. I called Dave Gordon for this date and together with bassist Raph Mizraki we rehearsed some old New Noakes material. I quickly realised that the tunes sounded incredibly fresh again and we all felt that this was ‘a band’. Inspired by this new sound, I wrote a lot of new material and invited the other band members to contribute pieces. We toured the UK a couple of times and then decided to record an album, adding the powerhouse tenor saxophonist Butch Thomas and so the new quintet was established.
